Typical charging rate of a car battery (from alternator) by Existential Angst[_2_]
Toward the end of determining how many "external" car batteries can I put in parallel with the car battery, without over-loading the alternator?? I know the charging current draw would depend on the degree of discharge of the batts, so figger 50% discharge. Or even total discharge, ie, a dead...

And now the Bull starts by Hachiroku
A woman testified before Congress that when her Toyota began accelerating uncontrollably she "put the car in neutral and it had no effect, I stepped on the brakes and it had no effect, I applied the emergency brake and it had no effect, I even tried to put the car into reverse and I...

bracket for mounting sealed beams by Nate Nagel[_2_]
does it exist, for a 92-97 F-series? It looks like a 200mm × 142mm sealed beam ought to physically fit, but I don't have one to try, and I don't feel like fabbing something if it's already been done for me. Reason I ask is I took my original question to a certain lighting expert that used to...

heater takes forever to get warm by Tom Del Rosso[_3_]
In a 2002 LeSabre the hot air is lukewarm for at least an hour. It could be normal but that seems unlikely. -- Reply in group, but if emailing, add a zero and remove the last word.

Does brake fluid have a shelf life? by metspitzer[_2_]
I found some at a relative's house that may be 15 years old. It is in a can with a screw off top. I didn't notice the brand.

Car batteries: Walmart any good? by [email protected]
My battery in my Mazda died the other day. Strange, I've never had a car battery die in the summer. Its always been the winter when low temps and load is present. Anyway..... I bought a replacement battery from Walmart cause it was an emergency (no time to shop around).

Hybrid cars a safe buy? by Julie P.
I'm in the market for a new car, specifically a 2007 Saturn Vue Hybrid (Green Line). Are these pretty much safe to buy, meaning has the technology been around long enough so there are enough techs out there trained to make repairs and are parts readily available? Is hyrbid technology reliable?...

Request opinions on my sort-of-new Accord by Otis
General questions which is why I included five NG's. I've actually had the car for almost a year (bought 9-25-08). The car had a mild steering wheel shimmy at 60-70 mph that I noticed driving it home from the dealership the day I bought it. The car had not been sitting on the lot long ( a week or...

An AD on TCM?!?!?! by Hachiroku $B%O%A%m%/(B[_2_]
Hey cuhulin, you watch TCM tonight? There was a AD on! A Toyota ad. A 30 second Yaris ad. No narrative, just music and pictures of the car, followed by "Toyota Yaris". Hope they don't take the same path as AMC. That would suck.

I love ignorant people by m6onz5a
A lady comes in to our store to get an oil filter. She mentions that she just came from Advance and they were out of it, so like most people they come to our store (A real auto parts store) as a second choice.. I look up the filter and we have it in stock. She asks what brand do we carry and I tell...

Toyota just lost a sale by Ashton Crusher[_2_]

Diesels available in the USA by Paul Hovnanian P.E.
Aside from the big trucks, 6.2 liter, etc., how many smaller vehicles (sedans, light pickups, light or medium sized SUVs) are available in the USA with diesel engines? I know about VWs TDi Jetta, and I think the Touareg has an available diesel, but that's all I can think of. -- Paul Hovnanian ...

Tips on diagnosing electrical/ignition issues? by Doc
I've fooled with hard parts for years, I'm pretty much a complete newbie digging into electrical issues, particularly on a more modern car. I've got a test light and a multitester and the shop manual. Any suggestion either general or specific in trying to hunt down the cause of a no-spark...

Fix-a-Flat Makes a Tire Un-patchable? by panabiker
A day after I used the Fix-a-flat to drive home, I took the tire to Costco (where I bought) to have it patched. After the clerk prepared paper work to patch the tire, I thought I should let them know that I used fix-a-flat as the label suggests. As soon as she heard fix-a- flat, she said the tire...

Extended oil changes and high mileage by Frank
I searched pretty extensively before starting this thread, but I'm looking for real-life stories -- not opinions, arguments, theories, etc. So at risk of starting another oil war -- ;o) I run 24,000 miles a year of mostly interstate -- about the easiest life a vehicle can live --, and I'm looking...
