Single Event Upsets: Cosmic radiation makes Toyota computers gohaywire? by
john
Electronics makers have known for decades about "single event upsets,"
computer errors from radiation created when cosmic rays strike the
atmosphere.
With more than 3,000 complaints to U.S. regulators of random sudden
acceleration problems in Toyota models, several researchers say single
event...

Need Advice: Removing Ford Power Window Regulator? by
Josh[_8_]
The driver side power window motor on my 93 Ford Aerostar (171,000
miles) has gone bad. I know it's the motor or regulator gearing and
not the switch or wiring because when I put a good 12V and ground
directly to the motor wires inside the door panel, the motor still
won't turn in either direction....

"stretch bolts"? (Cylinder head) by
George[_23_]
I'm considering taking the head off our '99 Cavalier 2.2L. A couple of
parts stores have said that the head bolts are one-time-use "stretch
bolts", and need to be replaced. The (GM) service manual doesn't say
anything about this.
I would appreciate any clarification.
Thanks,
George

lifter: stuck or "collapsed"? by
George[_23_]
('99 Cavalier 2.4, 115K) Has a pretty loud engine ... 'slap', I'd call
it. (It had a 'tick', but this is loud enough to be embarrasing to
drive.)
We had a similar problem last summer. I listened to the rocker arms
with a stick, and found one that matched the noise. And, I could rotate
that...

Is it ok to switch between brands of synthetic oil? by
techman41973
Sometimes I do my own oil changes and I prefer to use Mobil-1. But at
quick-lube places like Jiffy Lube, they usually offer Penzoil Platinum
synthetic for only $12 more.
Is it ok to switch between brands of synthetic at oil changes or are
there solid reasons to stay with one brand of synthetic?

I love ignorant people by

A lady comes in to our store to get an oil filter. She mentions that
she just came from Advance and they were out of it, so like most
people they come to our store (A real auto parts store) as a second
choice.. I look up the filter and we have it in stock. She asks what
brand do we carry and I tell...
