Explorer Load Weight Capacity? by
JW[_3_]
I'm getting ready to lay a new laminate floor and can save some $$ if
I can eliminate delivery. Any thoughts on trying to haul about 600
pounds in the back of a 2005 4X2 Explorer? Travel distance would be
about 15 miles with no serious hills. My door panel shows a GAWR of
3200lb, but I don't know...

1998 Mountaineer V6 stalls after start by
Kenneth J. Harris
I bought this car new and it has only about 35,000 miles on it. It
starts instantly but for the last couple of weeks it will stall
immediatly after starting. It restarts instantly and is runs perfectly
after that. Problem may occur maybe once more later in the day. Air
cleaner was replaced...

94 Explorer-acts like starving for fuel when accelerating, but..... by
J Adams
When I accelerate hard, as in pulling out into traffic, the engine
coughs and sputters. Loss of power. When I ease off then the engine
operates normally. This basically happens over 2000 RPMs.
I've added fuel additives, injector cleaners, octane boosters, you
name it. The performance did improve...

Gasket and Freeze Plug issues... by
Erik[_5_]
Hi all,
This past weekend I took my car in to get its regular checkup. I have
a '94 Ford Explorer Sport, 4.0 liter engine, 6 cylinder (I think),
stick shift, and over 150,000 miles.
Everything went fine, except when the mechanic showed me the car as it
was hoisted up. He shined a flashlight on...

vibrations by
CanusLupus
Hi All,
Patient: Ford Explorer Sport 1999, 4.0L, 6V, 4X4. 120K miles.
Sumptom: Vibrations, the car vibrates while driving to a degree that I
can hear tire iron ringing in the trunk, the mirror vibrates, the
whole damn car vibrates... It feels like it will fall apart in a
moment. The cause seems to...

Bad Tires? by
tfandango
Hi There-
I've got a 2000 XLT and got 5 free Goodyear Wrangler RT/S tires at 35K
miles due to the whole Firestone calamity. Over the last 20K miles or
so, the driver's side front tire has developed a WHOP WHOP WHOP sound
that is loudest at 35MPH and is noticable until about 65MPH.
Rotation seems...

General 4WD Questions ('92 mainly) by
Ulysses
Hi everybody,
I live in South California and we've been getting a lot of rain lately (at
least WE think it's a lot) so I've been driving through some deep mud
lately. When driving through the mud my Explorer (I have a '91 and my wife
drives a '92EB) sometimes the car goes sideways, especially if...

diagnosing clutch issues by
[email protected]
OK, I seem to have some issues getting into 1st gear on a 1996 manual
4WD sport. Also you have to delay some to move to other gears. Pedal
seems 'springy', or close to normal - hard to say.
When I switch the engine off, it slides into 1st effortlessly.
The clutch fluid level is correct.
I had a...

4.0 SOHC Tranny oil change 50KKm or 250Kkm? by
Peter
Ford's "Scheduled Maintenance Service Guide" indicates that for 1996
to 2004 the explorer 4.0 only needs "transmission service" every
250Kkm! That's about 155,000 miles! It goes on to list a nunmer if
transmissions and vehicles which do require fluid change at 50Kkm.
Guess what wasn't there. No...

2003 Mountaineer V8 Tranny Fluid Change by
D.D. Palmer
It's just not clear to me when the tranny needs to be flushed and how it's
done and who can do it. Apparently it's now a sealed unit without a
dipstick. The owner's manual is worthless...it says if you have THIS tranny
(gives a code number), then change this often, if THAT tranny, than that
often....

1994 explorer auto hubs grinding by
Happy Father
when i engage the 4x4 it works fine but i am concerned out the slight
griding noise i hear and feel in the gas petal, is this normal? I assume
with the 4x4 on i should experience a different feel in the gas peddle. It
engages and disengages fine.
The only other thing is when i turn over 1/2 way...

4ALD tranny? by
Manso
OK. I am gonna guess that this question has been posted in the past, but I
can't find it so here goes....
1991 Ford Explorer Auto 4X4 EB
I have been told that the tranny in it is "not the greatest".
I don't have enough tools or skills to go to a C4 or "other" option.
I could probably R&R the 4ALD...

2003 Explorer - cracked rear lift-gate by
kannan_ram_srini
I am new to the group and am unsure if this question has been asked
before. If it has, please accept my apologies in advance and direct me
to the previous thread on this topic.
I used the remote to open the rear lift gate on my Explorer last night.
While opening it, I noticed a crack about 1/8 in....

P.A.T.S. anti theft on 98 Explorer? by
Red
I've been told that some 98's were equipped with a Passive AntiTheft
System which requires any new keys to be programmed, sorta like
programming a new remote button. How can you tell if your vehicle has
the PATS system? I got only one key with my used Explorer. The black
plastic head is marked FORD...
