Explorer Load Weight Capacity? by
JW[_3_]
I'm getting ready to lay a new laminate floor and can save some $$ if
I can eliminate delivery. Any thoughts on trying to haul about 600
pounds in the back of a 2005 4X2 Explorer? Travel distance would be
about 15 miles with no serious hills. My door panel shows a GAWR of
3200lb, but I don't know...

I have a '99 Ex and absolutely love it! One problem is starts
intermittantly and is now becoming very unreliable. May have to trade to
dealer if I can't find the problem.
Turn key, ignition cranks... doesn't start. Sometimes if I try for 15
minutes or longer, will start.

91 Explorer, broken seat back pull lever, anyone else? by
Kevin DeAngelis
Mine hasn't broken yet, but it will someday. My driver's seat is sagging a
bit, and my 215 pound bulk causes the lever to bend downward. I pulled it
back up a couple of times, only to have it bend again. Now I leave it alone
except for when I want to change the seatback rake angle, but it's...

2005 Ford Explorer 4x4 Auto by
[email protected]
We recently rented a 2005 Ford Explorer XLT for the weekend and loved
it for both on-road as well as light off-road 4-wheeling.
Can someone explain or direct me to a site that explains how the "4x4
Auto" setting works? I am interested in the drive train details and
what the expected lifetime is...

Trickle Charger by
D.D. Palmer[_2_]
My good friends have a Volvo and leave it in the garage all winter (here
in the north) as they sun in Florida. In prior years the battery has
always ended up dead because the car seems to have something that uses
small amounts of power. This year they got a trickle-charger. But the
instructions...

mrbarnard[_2_]
My 1992 Ford Explorer XLT (4.0L V6, automatic, tilt wheel) starts and runs, but when the key is released and springs back to "run" position, the engine dies.
While holding the key between "start" and "run", the engine runs but the electrics (blower motor, wipers) don't work.
I replaced the...

AWD operation question by
Vic Klein
I've driven a '97 Explorer with Control Trak for years. It works well and I
especially appreciate the ability to lock the transfer case in poor
conditions providing an immediate improvement in traction without waiting
for a wheel to slip.
Our new (to us) '08 V8-AWD Mountaineer has a less...

INFO: Reverse "slipping" on Ford Explorer by
Greg
I've had a problem with reverse (automatic trans) on my 1999 Ford
Explorer Sport for some time. It would work fine at low throttle but
it would act like I was hold the break down if I needed more power
(like backing up a hill). I searched the internet and it really
sounded like it might be some...

OEM or good alternative by
Ben Kaufman
From a past experience, I am leery about having non OEM (OEM means made by Ford,
correct?) suspension parts used in the repair of my 1998 Explorer. Before I
insist that the shop I patronize use Ford parts, are there any other brands that
are of equivalent quality?
Thanks.

This question is slightly off topic as it pertains to the new CVT
(Continuously Variable Transmission) used on the new Ford Freestyle Crossover
SUV, but I think the discussion will be interesting to all. The idea has been
around for a while, but this is one of the first actual applications on a...

MAF issues by
Esteban
I was going to take my MAF off and clean it today. However, both star
screws have a plastic coating that is proving to be very difficult to remove
without damaging the head of the screw.

Any suggestions?
Thanks,

Cylinder 3 misfire revisited by
Lance
All,
On my ongoing saga of locating why my check engine light keeps posting the
code of 0303, I noticed more coolant being used. The mechanic did a
compression check and he did say that it was normal. But he was concerned
that my intake may be leaking causing my coolant to leak into cylinder...

Replace Steering Rack Boot 95 Explorer EB by

Yesterday the passenger side steering rack boot split in my 4wd 1995 EB

at home and have not driven it.
I think I could replace this by removing the tie-rod.
Is this true, or do I have to remove the whole power steering...

If they don't, I'm wondering how well something like this would go in the
North American market?
