ION Oil Changes by bo peep
The ION has a feature where the computer monitors the vehicle's driving conditions and determines when it is time for an oil change. The factory states that oil changes are not needed before that time. Our local Saturn dealers say that this is all wrong, and that the oil should be changed every 3k...

Body Control Module (BCM) availability by bo peep
On a 2006 Ion, I'm getting a passlock warning light when the doors are locked. The dealer says that the Body Control Module (BCM) needs to be replaced, but Saturn is "temporarily" not shipping any new BCMs for 2006 Ions. Has anyone heard anything about this, or when they will be available?

Stuck Horn -- Help Please (96 SC2) by Bob
Hello, Last night, while parked in my driveway, the horn on my 96 Saturn SC2 started blaring for no apparent reason. The key wasn't in the ignition, and it hadn't been driven for several hours. The only way I could stop it was to remove the fuse. Any ideas on why this happened or how to fix it?...

95 SL2 DOHC NOx failure by Bob
My 95 SL2 (DOHC, 215k miles) just failed the Harris Co, TX emissions test for the second time, NOx in both cases. After the first failure I replaced the EGR valve, which was pretty dirty and which may have been sticking. I would occasionally get the 32 error code, so the computer thought there was...

Ion Redline Questions by Bob
Hi, I just bought an Ion Quad Coupe Redline. I have a few questions that I couldn't get answered by the dealer... The docs that came with the car are Ion and have no mention of the Redline. That's no big deal, but I was told by the dealer that the oil changes MUST use Mobil 1 and that the oil...

Engine Codes 326 & 341 by Bob Shuman
I had posted a couple of previous messages asking about harsh shifting on my son's 1996 Saturn SL1 (1.9L single cam), but no one seemed to have any advice to offer so I replaced the Torque Axis Mount (was going bad the new one definitely reduces engine movement on shifting), then tried...

1996 SL A/C Capacity? by Bob Shuman
Does anyone have a factory service manual or know off hand the R134 refrigerant and associated lubricant capacity for a 1996 SL? I just replaced a damaged condenser on my son's SL, but did not disrupt anything else in the system. There was clearly oil still left in the system so I'm guessing I...

Comments on '97 through '02 SL1 & SL2? by Bob Shuman
My 19+ year old son has driven a '96 SL1 for the last 3 years. It had 112K miles on it when he got it and we did all preventive maintenance at that time. It now has 140K miles and has been good to him. It was a good car to travel to/from college since it had adequate space, got very good...

'96 SL1 Transmission Clunk When Shifting by Bob Shuman
1996 Saturn SL1. 125K miles. Has been a good car. Current problem when shifting from Park into either forward or reverse. Engine moves violently and loud clunk heard. Also experience the same loud noise when driving and shifts between 2-3 and 3-4. It seems to shift much smoother from 1-2. I...

'96 SL1 Leaking Trans Fluid by Bob Shuman
My son's 125K+ mile SL1 has been leaking transmission fluid, but has just started getting much worse. I took a quick look underneath and it appears to be coming form the area of the filter, transmission cooler lines and a sensor. I'm guessing it is one of the cooler line fittings since it...

1996 SL1 Difficulty Starting - Solenoid Location/Other Thoughts? by Bob Shuman
My son is experiencing a problem starting his '96 SL1. He says the engine seems to turn over slowly so won't start, then after cranking for a few seconds, starts normally. He says this happens more frequently when weather is colder and has been happening "on and off" for the last 3 or so...
