Some details of the 2AZ-FE engine by Built_Well
Gonna write this stuff down and post it so I don't lose it. Had to wade through a lot of pages to find it. The 5th Generation Camry's 2AZ-FE engine (an advanced powerplant, by the way) is the same engine that was used in the '01 Highlander SUV. 5th Generation Camrys cover Model Years '02 -...

how do in-tank vapour separators work? by [email protected]
For many decades, cars have a vapour separator connected to the charcoal cannister. Some have external devices, and some are inside the fuel tank. I got a tank from a scrap yard and removed the sender and filler elbow to look inside. There are 2 white cylinders on the top of the tank. A pipe from...

Mazda 2 (2011) front brake replacement by Jc Maxwell
So this weekend some friends and I are going to attempt replacement of front rotors and pads on a 2011 Mazda 2 Sport. I took the car to a mechanic a while back. He reported that there was a lot of rust on the rotors, and the pads had very little (perhaps 5%) material left. The rust is likely the...

Accidentally wrecking the fuel pump? by geo pearl
I wanted to ask you guys if a story is true: That if you habitually use all the gas in your tank you run the risk of damaging your fuel pump because the pump is dry. If you would, please give your response and don't spare the details/stories. Thanks.

Opinions on Midtronics battery test gizmo? by pongespob
I'm aware of issues with a particular motor club that sells batteries to members on site. I saw a driver using an MBC-5500 tester which as near as I can tell is made by Midtronics, though can't seem to find much about that specific tester. Supposedly these guys test the battery and charging system...

nasty ingredients of throttle/carby cleaner by [email protected]
I found the safety data sheet of one product and it lists contents as toluene, acetone and methanol Might not these damage rubber seals on idle air controls for example? I would think hexane might be a safer cleaning solvent.

different long term fuel trim idling in park vs in drive? by [email protected]
I'm trying to troubleshoot an HC emissions failure in a 94 Chevy Suburban 5..7 liter with TBI and one heated O2 sensor. Over several minutes idling in park the long term fuel trim will creep down to around 100 (with 128 being stoichiometric). So this works out to like -22% or so if I'm reading it...

2008 Civic Hybrid. IMA battery light and Check Engine light are both on whenever there's somewhat high electric load such as running AC and with head light on. How many miles will a typical car actually get on a tire rated 500? I googled for the Uniform Tire Quality Grade (UTQG) Standards and found articles which describe how the government runs the Texas test to determine the tire treadwear rating based on the first 7200...

Can a 4 cylinder car tow a mini-van perhaps an 1/8th of a mile, partly w/a small incline? W/o detrimental effects to the tranny and/or engine? I know it sounds like a stupid question, but inquiring minds would like to know! :) TIA Can you know somehow in real time that what you're doing is BAD? A...

Volvo XC90 by [email protected]
looking at a 2003 T6. Are parts really more expensive (some people tell me no). Is the engine/tranny more difficult to work on? Can't see why they would be.. I prefer American cars (GM) as they're simpler and basically as reliable as anything else, in my experience anyway (overwhelmingly). No...

2005 Toyota Corolla: dashboard light problems by [email protected]
Hi, Just bought a used 2005 Toyota Corolla. Works fine, but noticed these 2 problems: 1. dashboard clock is very, VERY dim. It tells time, but so dim that it cannot be read in daylight. 2. dashboard backlight on the dial that selects the airflow (i.e. feet/face/defrost) goes on/off depending on...
