91 explorer no start, power loss??? by
A n A
Hi,
I have a strange issue. I've asked around home and nobody knows what to do.
I have a 91 explorer xtl 4 l. w/about 100k miles on it. It was starting fine
til I went to leave for work one morning. I tried starting it, heard one
click form the starter then lost power from the battery. I tapped...

Noisy Front End by
Mark Sparge
It's a '99 XLT 4.0 4X4 with about 150K miles on the clock.
The noise sounds like it's running in second gear with knobby tires.
It isn't.
I've done some Google searches, and have managed to eliminate the
following:
It isn't the fan clutch -- the noise varies a little with vehicle
speed, not...

94 Ford Explorer Fuel Pump by
J Adams
In this same vein, would a bad ECM or relay cause intermittent failure
of the fuel pump to cycle upon turning the ignition switch? The good
thing is the failure of the fuel pump to cycle is increasing in
frequency so soon it will better/easier to isolate the source of the
problem. Is my thinking on...

seat belt retractor by
Bob[_2_]
The driver's seat belt in my '94 has lately become hard to pull out and
it is slow to retract back in the retractor. I suppose I should replace
it but being the cheapskate I am thought I'd ask if maybe I could squirt
some WD 40 in it or something to fix it. Thanks.

Air Ride Control Shocks by
Tom Amundsen
I have a 1998 Explorer Eddie Bauer with the Air Ride Control system.
The shocks are shot (102k mi on them and it wallows at highway speed).
Since I am in the Chicago area I have many dealers nearby and called
the closest 6 of them. They all say they can replace the shocks with
the same dual...

1999 Ford Explorer Sport 4x4 by
Collision
(4WD HI) and (4WD LO) cluster indicator lights are flashing when truck is
started or driving. Nothing seems to be mechanically wrong, I can still
engage into 4WD from Auto 4WD with the control knob on the dash. Would
there be a problem with the electronic shift control module? Is this the
case...

Right Rear rusting by
Vic Klein
Well, after 230K miles of driving through snowstorms and off road on muddy
trails in the NE and continuing to run flawlessly, my 1997 Explorer is
developing rust around the fuel filler area on the left rear. The rust is
coming from the inside out, likely because there is no fender liner and salt...

2002 Explorer Sport Gauges acting crazy by
[email protected]
I just recently bought a 2002 explorer sport with about 50K on it.
Drove it for a week with no problems. First I noticed the gas gauge
one day go way down below "E" and the check gauge light appeared. I
kept an eye on it, and eventually it climbed back to half a tank. Im
think, Ok, Maybe a bad...

95 EB - Will not start and Scanner cannot run tests by
plex4r
The car will not start after sitting for a week. It had been getting
harder
to start after sitting for just a weekend.
The code scanner will not run any tests.
Can I take the PCM out and have that tested?
I have already swiched the PCM/AC relays and this had no impact.
Or what else should I do...

94 Ford Explorer Fuel Pump and scanner by
J Adams
I have now narrowed it down to the fuel delivery system (somehow) and
the scanner not working when fuel pump can not be heard to run with
ignition on.
Here's the symptoms and the scenario;
Last night I went to the store around 9PM, inside less than 5 minutes,
and when I came out to start the...

2002 Explorer "OD Off" light flashing by
Bill Jeffrey
This is the 5R55W transmission behind a 4.6L V-8, and 3.73LS rear end.
Last night we came home from a week in our camper. The camper is light
(3500 pounds) compared to the tow rating of the Explorer (7000 pounds),
but there were a lot of steep grades, and altitudes to about 7000 feet,
so the...

2002 Explorer OBD-II parameters list? by
Bill Jeffrey
2002 Explorer XLT 4.6L 5-speed automatic, factory tow package.
Does anyone have a list of the parameters that can be read by an OBD-II
tool from this vehicle? In particular I would like to read the
transmission fluid temperature, since I pull a trailer at high altitudes
and steep grades.
I'm...

Cheap Horsepower? by

does anyone have a list of inexpensive things you can do to a fuel
injected engine to get small improvements in efficiency and power?
(Example: K&N filter etc...)
or any home 'remedies' to increase power or efficiency? (Example:
Wind screen behind throttle body to disperse airflow evenly)
i know i...

1995 Explorer EB will not start. by
plex4r
My 1995 EB has been hard to start for a few months, especially when it is
cold in the mornings, but it always has started. After it sat for a week
without running, it will not start.
The fuel filter was old so I replaced that and verified that it is getting
fuel. (The old filter was clogged. I...

92 hood latch by
Charlie Bress[_2_]
Without any warning the hood latch cable on my 1992 Explorer broke or
disenaged from the latch. There is no resistance when pulling the release
handle.
How can the hood be opened?
Is this doable at the shop level?
Does it require a dealer's servive shop?

'98 explorer removing spare from under car by
odyssey
Greetings
I'm going to remove the spare tire ( hope to ! ), but everything looks rusty
, apart from pb-blaster. There looks to be a cable holding it up, I'm
assuming. Is this going to be a project ? Is there any insider thing to help
out ? Anyone taken one out ? It seems that it was never...

1993 Explorer Sport window problem by
JENNIFER SMITH
Couple of quick questions regarding my 1993 Explorer Sport. First, what
would cause the driver's side window to start going down all on its own?
This has been happening off and on for the past 3 weeks. If I push the up
button while it's happening, it stops going down, but doesn't go up. If I...

Strange Slurping Noise by
Mark Sparge
Here's an odd one. 99 XLT with 4 wheel drive.
After sitting through a really heavy rainstorm, started out and there
is an odd slurping sound -- sounds like it's behind me somewhere on
the left side of the vehicle. It only lasts a second or less, and
only does it once, so its hard to pin down. ...
