Interesting take on Ethanol and flex fuels by
Oppie[_8_]
I was reading in machine design magazine, an interesting editorial on why
detroit is so interested in flex fuels. Seems the MPG standards are (for
purposes of CAPE) based solely on the gasoline component of the fuel. This
is of course, an artificial number just to get past regulatory...

Bad news, possible cracked head by
J B
Took my SW2 in to Sears Auto for an oil change. After doing the job they
told me to take the car into an engine shop ASAP, because when they
pulled the dipstick out a little smoke was coming out and "that usually
means a cracked head gasket". So all the money I spent at the Saturn
dealership trying...

96 SL 2 has a boring noise by
Leeinwind
The mechanic told my friend her 96 SL2's noise came from the A/C
compressor. The repair fee is even more expensive than the car. But till
now, everything works fine. Even A/C also works very well. Does she need
to get the problem fixed? What's the exact reason of so much noise? Thanks
a million in...

Cold Air System mph by

2000 Saturn LW2 IAT Sensor location? by
news
Anyone know where exactly the IAT sensor is on this 3.0 L V6 (comes from
Saab) engine? I've looked all over the intake area, can't find it. The
sensor is small, has a
two-wire plug.
DTC error indicated a bad IAT, P0113 "IAT sensor 1 circuit high input".

New '06 models by
marx404
We just got in a "secret" stash of 2006 ION and VUEs. First of all, I am
already impressed with the changes in the ION:
Optonal 2.4L engine has performance suspension and sportier sounding
exhaust. Engine has built-in oil cooler module.
ION & VUE:
New radio! Center large selector dial with tabbed...

1993 SL bucks... suggestions? by
K. Daver
Hey everyone..
I have a 1993 Saturn SL manual 5 speed which has started bucking while
driving. It has about 160k miles on it and has been EXTREMELY
dependable until now. While driving it, it will start to buck. There
doesn't seem to be any pattern except for once in a while it will buck.
At...

Mods for better gas mileage by
Old time radio fan
There's plenty of stuff to get more horsepower out there. What is
there to improve the gas mileage for an Ion or SL2? Do any real
products actually exist?
Related: Anybody try a gasoline preheater? I put a homemade one on a
'74 Mercury Capri and got better gas mileage. Why don't we see...

"service engine soon" on '93 SL1 by
[email protected]
My '93 SL1 with 143k miles suddenly had the SES light come on a couple
days ago. The light only comes on going 65 mph or greater on an upward
incline, or at 68-70 mph minimum on flat ground. Any idea what this
could be? It recently barely failed an emissions test, but I didn't
drive it much...

Vue 2004, V4 5-speed Manual---Opinions? by
MSEagan
My husband and I test drove a Vue today. We took it on the highway and it
seemed to have good power even though it was only a V4, 5-speed. So, I am
wondering if there are any red flags with this car that any of you know of?
We could go to the V6 FWD automatic, but we may want to buy another...

Need help fast, spark plugs drenched in oil. by
[email protected]
I have a 1991 Saturn SL Sedan 1.9L DOHC. I read a similar post about
this but wasn't sure. I pulled out the number 1, 2, and 3 plugs and
they were covered in oil, number 1 being the worst and the number 4
cylinder being completely dry. Could this be the valve cover gasket?
I replaced the plugs...

Temp gauge reads cold by
Ratbert
On a ~100-mile drive, the temperature gauge on our 98 SL2 never went
over about 1/8. The heater seemed to be blowing out plenty of warm air
on us. Does this sound like a bad thermostat, CTS, or something else?

Ion vs. Chevy Cobalt: same car? by
[email protected]
I might be in the mrket for a new car next year and two of the
reasonable choices in my price range are the Saturn Ion and the
Cevrolet Coabalt. (Of course another option is to buy a bigger, safer
higher-end vehicle used, but I want to go new if I can; I've fought
most of the used car battles over...

Synthetic Oil Questions by
Gary
Do you think Saturn would kill my warranty if I wanted to use a synthetic or
part synthetic oil like Mobil 1 or Clean 7500? I have the 2005 ION QC (not
redline) and the manual is pretty explicit on regular oil, but I want to
have this car last a good long time and the Clean 7500 is less than $3...

Saturn vs Pontiac by
marx404
Just a fun topic: We have a few Pontiac Grand Ams and GP's on our lot, and
quite frankly I am impressed with them. There are many features that are
similar to the ION inside. I like the ION steering better though and had a
good laugh when I learned that the GT GrandAM V6 w/ "ram air" only puts...

Bosch Platium Spark plugs? by

Got a 200 sl1 and Saw these on sale at my local Canadian Tire for 4 bucks
off a package of 4. I tried them out and defiantly an improvement in torque
and smoother acceleration (5 speed manual and tons of hiway driving).
I should also note I changed my PCV valve which was grungy and oily so...
