Just picked up a 98 RAV4 4WD 4door and the first thing I did was get the oil and filter changed (Mobil 1 5W-30). Found the problem, right front axle was separating from transmission.Axle stub shaft was worn on the outer end.Temporary fix by replacing with new clip however stub shaft will eventually need replacing.The axle was coming off the stub shaft and going back on causing the temporary failure.
