Explorer V8 EGR valve replacement by Dave Horoschak
Does anyone know where I can find the instructions for replacing the EGR valve in a 96 Explorer V8? None of the typical manuals (Chiltons, Haynes) cover the V8 in enough detail for this to be included. Thanks. - Dave

The "Service Engine Soon" light just came on in my 2002 Explorer XLS. Isn't there some way to make the actual code display by . . . oh, I don't know . . .. turning the key a certain number of times while it's turned off or something like that? I just know there is SOME WAY to do this. I'm...

2010 Explorers by Christopher Guidry
What gives with Ford no longer offering standard transmissions? The fact that there line of 2010 Explorers are only automatic is keeping me from ever considering upgrading my 92. -- Christopher Guidry

Keyless Entry by [email protected]
I recently bought a used 2000 XLT with keyless entry. It also has key locks on the front doors and tailgate. The key opens the tailgate, but doesn't turn the front door locks. This is the first vehicle I've had with keyless entry- is it normal to have the standard door locks be non-functional with...

lots o crankin before starting by Jerry[_2_]
I've got a 99 XLT with 4.0L SOHC engine with 137K miles. For quite some time now it takes several seconds or more of cranking before the engine starts. When it does starts it sometimes stumbles until I press the gas pedal once or twice. After that it idles and runs fine. The cranking is fast,...

Hello All I'm about to change the gear oil on my 92 XLT with limited slip (I'm at 103,000 miles) The parts store gave me Castrol Limited Slip Gear Lubricant and the 4 oz of friction modifier Ford calls for. It's GL-5 SAE 80W-90. The Ford manual says use hypoid gear oil (the Haynes manual says...

Whining Chinese Fan Clutch on '91 by Ulysses
I just replaced my fan clutch on my '91 XLT (4.0 V6 EFI) with one that I got from Auto Zone's online store. It looks exactly like the OEM Ford part but it makes a loud whining noise when I accelerate. It says "Made in China." The description was "heavy duty for fast revving engines" or something...

is "voltimeter" even a word?!?! by nashjeff
My '91 Explorer is alive and almost well. While it may have several imminent ailments, the most problematic and anxiety-causing is the upper-left battery gauge. It seems to flicker like a stereo equalizer whenver I push the brake pedal or come to a resting idle. I have checked and charged the...

'(@ Eddie....Can it do it? by John Riggs
I apparently have to make an emergency drive from Nebraska to Florida to pick up my horse. Since I have a '92 EB and it only has the factory bumper hitch, will that be safe enough to pull a two horse trailer 2400 miles? I dragged my old Bronco II behind me farther than that with no problems,...

1998 4.0 OHV Underpowered by Thomas Rice
This is my first time owning an explorer and first time driving a vehicle with the 4.0 OHV engine. I have driven everyother explorer engine combination and have found that the OHV is the most underpowered fuel guzzler I have ever driven. I have a hard time believing that this is the way the...

Just bought a 2004 with 29,000 miles by Jah Free I
I just bought a 2004 Explorer XLT with 29,000 miles (for $19,888). I didn't get get extended warranty since it still has factory 6,000 more factory warranty miles left. Is the reliability of this vehicle good, or should I purchase the warranty before the 6000 miles is up?

Jim, or anybody that knows, I tried again today to make sense of the codes coming out of the OBD-1 , but since I have no real idea what it means, all I can do is ask what the series of numbers means. 5395391157157. Now, is it: 53 = Throttle sensor out of range; TP sensor circuit above maximum...
