My new toy... by
Alan Baker
I'm afraid my 1990 is not going to get as much TLC as I'd originally
planned.
Taking the race driving course at Laguna Seca has changed my priorities,
and so I've bought this:

I love my new shoes! by
Alan Baker
Since I got my new wheels and tires (949Racing.com's 6ULs in 15x7.5 with
Toyo Tires T1Rs in 195/50) I've started to feel the love for my Miata
again. After the drive home along highway 2 in Washington State and
showing them off to everyone, I've:
Had the car washed and the interior...

Alignment and a clever plan. by
Alan Baker
Well, I don't know if it will happen this year or not (it's starting to
look like not; unforeseen life expenses will eat into your discretionary
budget <sigh>), but I'm definitely going to put a high end suspension on
my 1990 as my next major upgrade. I'm still not sure what it will be,
but it...

Going to Skip Barber! by
Alan Baker
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!
And a happy 50th birthday to me.
My family and friends are the best. I don't normally hint about what I'd
like, but when it was communicated to me that they needed some
direction, I thought long and hard about some nice thing for my Miata,
but I...

What do you guys think of it?
I'm planning on a whole bunch of upgrades including:
Flyin Miata AFCOs with V8Roadster control arms, FM anti-roll bars and
their butterfly brace.
Because I've got this upcoming trip down to California with the GF.

More laps at Laguna Seca by
Alan Baker
I forgot all about the video in my GoPro. I had assumed that because I
found the camera pointing skyward when I went to turn it off, the mount
must not have been tight enough and the must have blown it back. But I
had just bumped it getting out of the...

Next up: suspension upgrades by
Alan Baker
So the new wheels and tires are a big hit...
....and new spark plugs have put a little zip back into the engine...
....and big brakes are out for now, because:
1. The 15x7.5 6ULs won't fit over any of the aftermarket big brake kits
without spacers (small ones; maybe 10mm max.); minor
2. I had...

Got 'em! by
Alan Baker
I just this moment got back from a long weekend road trip to Pullman,
Washington, where in addition to meeting a bunch of friends for much
golf, one friend in particular had agreed to act as my shipping
destination for my new wheels and tires.
Toyo T1R 195/50s mounted on 949Racing.com's 6ULs in...

Pulled the trigger today... by

....on new wheels and tires.
I couldn't find the combination of extreme lightness and price that I
would have liked in 16" rims for my 1990 Miata, so I accepted that 15"
was going to be the way to go.
So I've just ordered four 949 Racing 15x7.5 6ULs with Toyo T1Rs in
195/50 and all the extra...

Street suspension... by
Alan Baker
....what do you guys like?
My going in position is the FM 2.5 kit as from everything I've heard it
is a suspension that is suitable for spirited street driving and at
least passable should I ever get around to doing any autocross.
Since I live in Vancouver, and some of the roads around here are...

215/40-R16 Yokohama S.Drive tires by
Alan Baker
on 16x7 or 16x8 rims.
The tires are 19 lbs., and I'm looking for rims that weigh less than 15
lbs--preferably less than 14.
Why the S.Drives? They seem very well regarded as all-around performance
tires, but are rated particularly well in wet traction...
....and I do live in Vancouver.

Thanks for all the good thoughts. by
Alan Baker
Well...
I'm back from Edmonton and my father's funeral, and I'd like to thank
all of you for your support.
While I didn't reply, I did read your messages, and it helped to know
that there were lots of people out there who cared enough to say it.
Shortly I will be back to my cantankerous self,...

Loose Front End by
AlanRab
My '03 Miata has 5,400 original miles on it (I know, I know, I'm not
driving it enough!). Ever since it was new, I've noticed that if I
drive along uneven pavement, perhaps a ridge parallel to my course, it
sometimes feels like the car is being nudged or shoved left, then right
off its track. The...

MD/Tape Input on Radio by
AlanRab
Can I somehow use the MD/Tape input on the Radio/CD Changer that came
standard with my '03 SE as an input for an MP3/WMA player instead? If
so, is there an input jack behind the head unit that I can easily access
for such purposes?

Basic Alignment Question by
AlanRab
If feel like I should know this, but wonder: should I wait until AFTER I
get a new set of tires mounted before I have the front end aligned on my
Miata, or can the alignment be adusted just as accurately if it's done with
the old set of tires still mounted?
