my 87 4runner has a 22re auto trans and when i put it in 4wd and then to a drive gear (R,D,2,1) the motor stalls. I was having this problem w/ it in 2wd but i adjusted the timing and it works better. Does anyone have any ideas....please help!!!

Working on a 1995 GMC fullsize van, 4L60e tranny shifts up and down between drive and od at speeds above 45 mph. Shift is quick and harsh, and happens every minute or two. With shifter in d, van drives ok. Is tranny bad or? Thanks
