Rear Wheel Bearings Suddenly Bad... by Pete D
I recently took my 2002 Explorer in to the dealer for a rear brake job. At 71,000 miles, not surprisingly, it needed both pads and rotors. The day after picking it up, there's now suddenly a vibration / drone-sound emanating from the rear that's proportional to the speed of the vehicle. A trip...

Rear Wheel Bearings Suddenly Bad...The Outcome by Pete D
Just a note to all those who posted about my rear wheel bearing failures following a rear brake job... After several discussions with the service manager, he informed me that after contacting Ford, they agreed to pick up the tab if I'd be willing to pay a $50 'deductible'...not bad considering...

2005 cooling system clicking by RAC
Hi I'm trying to figure out what is making a clicking noise on my 2005 sport trac. It seems to be coming from the cooling system. With the engine on, at idle it will run for about two minutes before making a loud clicking noise from somewhere on the right hand side. Then you can hear the sound...

02 Ford Explorer no Brake Lights or Rear Turn Signals by [email protected]
My 2002 Ford Explorer's brake lights and rear turn signals are not working. The top rear brake light is working. The front turn signals work but blink really fast. I checked both bulbs and the fuse, they are all good. Anyone know what the problem could be? Thanks

I have a 01 Explorer Sport. I live in Germany and during vehicle inspection I was told that I have no E-Brake on the right side. I am completely ignorant about doing E-Brakes. Any help on where I can get started on fixing it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Lee

'05 Dragging Rear Brake (revisited) by Bob[_11_]
A little over 4 months ago I took my '05 XLT back to the dealer I bought it used from because the right rear brake was occaisionally dragging while starting out or very slowly creeping in traffic or at a stop light. They said they did not find anything wrong and replaced both rear pads and rotors....

Dim Bulb by D.D. Pallmer
We noticed that my wife's 2003 Mountaineer seems to have dim headlights. It's not clear if they have dimmed over the 4 years that we've owned the vehicle, or if they just SEEM dim compared to the newer (both in age and style) brighter bulbs in my Lexus and in our new Honda CR-V. Is there a...

Can't find oil leak. by Captain Coleman
1997 4.0 OHV 2WD XLT 4-door explorer with ~130K miles I've had a slow oil leak for awhile. Thus far I've replaced the intake manifold (upper and lower) and valve cover gaskets. I took it to a mechanic earlier this week and they diagnosed it as a leaking rear main seal. They also replaced the...

1998 Eddie Bauer. Turn heat on, blower work fine, but only cold air. Even after car is warmed up. Anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes later, it will start blowing hot air. Sometimes it can run for an hour with no hot air. Looking for some advice before I bring it in to a shop. I am new to town, and...

Low Speed Lurching by Kelley
I've got an '04 Explorer XLS 2wd that has what I can only describe as a dead spot in the trans. If let to coast for a while at speeds between 10 and the shift point to 2nd gear she'll lurch abruptly after stepping lightly on the throttle. There is also a slight delay between hitting the gas...

Michelin Tires, Cross Terrain or LTX? by Big Shoe
In the past, I have had several sets of LTX M/S tires on my Explorers and agree with everyone who says they are a great tire. I am planning to replace the original Goodrich tires soon on my '05 as they have gotten so noisy they are bugging me. Question is whether I should consider the Cross...

4.0L SOHC Cam Chain Problem by [email protected]
If you're familiar with these, I'm trying to understand how this works, and what the problems are. Near as I can tell, it works like this: There is a separate cam chain and tensioner for each head. The cam for driver's side head is driven by a chain on the front of the engine, while the cam for...
