Hello, all. During a viewing of the PBS "Call the Midwife" 2019 Holiday Special a Bedford motor vehicle is shown transporting the nurse/midwives to their TDY location in the Outer Hebrides. One scene shows a close-up of the vehicle, including sheep on the road, as the nurses/nuns are...

Hydraulic clutch by Bob Nogueira
Since there is no adjustment for clutch wear with a hydraulic clutch, does the throw out bearing stay in constant contact with the pressure plate? Thanks for any information.

1986 carbureted Toyota Corolla start problem by Snookums
I have a 1986 Corolla (FWD, 4AC engine) with 50K highway miles (all mine) that over the past few months has gradually become harder and harder to start, hot or cold. It always cranks fine but either dies right away or chugs and gradually increase in RPM. I've checked for vacuum leaks and gone...

Hood damage by Todd
My new 2005 Kia Sedona LX suffered damage to the hood when a large block of ice flew off the car's roof in front of me slamming into my hood. The damage is small ripples in the metal about 6 inches long. There was no damage to the paint and it is hard to see unless you are looking at a reflection...

Seeking additional info abour repairs to a Jeep by [email protected]
I have been quoted some prices on some potential repairs to my 95 Jeep Wrangler, but being a non-technical owner (I just drive the thing, I don't know how it works) I have a hard time understanding these problems, guaging how important they really are, and guessing whether or not I am getting a...

2000 Windstar cold stall by swilc0x
Hoping someone can tell me what's causing my Windstar to stall on cold days. Here are the symptoms: On cold days (say colder than 40 degrees Fahrenheit) the van will stall when the motor is still cold. When I say stall I mean the engine tries to die, sounds like the fanbelt is squelling whenever...

bad alternator? by Alex Rodriguez
Late last night my friend asked me to check out his car, 1988 Honda Accord. The alternator light had come on. I checked the belt, it was tight and not slipping. I had a volt meter, so I checked the voltage at the battery. It was 11.7 volts. This leads me to believe the alternator may be bad. ...

Engine dies after few minutes by Krystian Lelek
Hi, I have a problem with my Nissan Micra '95. Engine works perfectly (no stalls, powe cut-offs), until warmed. After it has reached optimal temperature (5-10 min.dashboard indicator) it suddenly goes down and I cannot start it again until chilled! I'm sure that it's not overheated and all the...

Replacing Struts on a 1995 Olds Cutlass by [email protected]
I have a 1995 Olds Cutlass Supreme that has 151,000 miles. I'd like to get another two years out it since that is when my HELOC loan will be paid off. The car sags on the LR wheel and overall does not ride that well. Also, the ABS light comes on quite a bit whenever I turn in to a driveway or...

Vehicle not moving in neutral by [email protected]
I have a 1999 Ford Ranger (manual transmission) and I am having some issues. As best as I can, here is what is happening...When, and only when, the truck sits parked for more than say 4 days, I get in it to drive it, put in in either first or reverse gear and it seems that the brakes (maybe the...

Premium fuel - production car - required? by WrongWayWade
I'm considering buying a car where the manufacturer recommends premium fuel. The car has an 11:1 compression ratio. A salesman told me I could use regular gas without a problem; I would just sacrifice a small part of the full horsepower potential of the car. But it wouldn't ping or cause any...

Chainsaw gets gas, spark, but won't start by Robert Enenkel
Hi -- I recently bought a used Husqvarna 268SE chainsaw. The previous owner said it started and ran for a while, but then died when it warmed up. I gave it fresh gas/oil mix but can't get it to start at all. Not even a hint of trying to start. I tried some experiments. I disconnected the spark...

1991 Civic Stalls by Paul
Hi. My car has developed a problem that I cannot find a solution to. It is a 1991 Honda Civic Special Edition (Canadian Model), 1.5L, 180,000kms. It is basically a DX with power steering and no AC. To the problem... The car stalls. It only stalls when warm, and only when coming to a stop. To...

Stripped Oil Pan Plug by The Doctor
While changing the oil on my well- used Honda Accord, I noticed that the oil pan bolt is totally stripped. I don't have time to tap/chase the threads so I need a quick fix. I heard they make tapered self- tapping oil pan repair kits. I cannot find them, though. Any ideas on where this is available?...

Gutting catalytic converter by Mark W
Is the gas flow through a factory converter better with, or without, the honeycomb filling? Some people say it's good to remove all or part of the insides, others say that will make the gases stall in the chamber. But some cars have an expansion chamber as a silencer anyway, don't they?
