Bad advice from a book, now clowdy water, Help! by [email protected]

I found the simple clay cat littler with no additives and used it. after a few days, the litter leached clay into the water, turing it a milky color. i have removed the plants...

Rock dust by Ian Paul Freemanly
Broadback Stroked my keelbasa and whined: I'm sure that many of you have seen the recent publicity about mixing rock dust with compost to make a great soil growing media. I live in North Staffordshire, is this dust available near here and what is the cost? My lower garden is devoid of top...

pump recommendations? by David
I have been using a Pondmaster Pump in my pond. It is a 1500 gph pump and has been a pretty good pump, although I have had to replace the impeller twice. It recently died and I was wondering what other options are out there. I need a pump that is low maintenance and can handle a bit of abuse if...

Wintering plants inside by ~ janj
If you have wintered over bog lily, taros, palms, etc. this is a good time to add wind. Wait till there is a new leaf coming up, trim off the old and start using an oscillating fan to stimulate stronger stems. They should endure spring winds outside by doing this. ~ jan -------------- See my ponds...

Hi all, I have a small backyard pond (7'x5'x2'deep) in southwestern Ohio. Temperatures were ranging in the 40's or even lower 50's, but lately, it's been in the 20's and 30's. Anyway, I will be moving soon to Indianapolis, about 2 hours north and west of me, and of course, I want to take my fish....

Too Early to put Water Hyacyinth (sp?) Out? by BryanB
I have one lonely water hyacinth plant sitting in a small vessel of water in the house for over-wintering it. (One of the dogs happened to develop a taste for destroying all the rest and this one is the only survivor from last year.) Air temps around here are up into the mid- to upper-60's and...

String Algae Blues? by ~ janj
Posted in Koiphen by me, figured I'd post it here too, fyi. For the non-chemically inclined.... string algae will decline with maturity of the pond. Before the wide use of UV we use to say, 1st year pea soup, 2nd year string algae, 3rd year balance. Of course stocking level plays a big part on...
