Aquaplancton by philip mould
Last weekend i mixed with water and decanted a sack of this in my wild pond to reduce algae. I had a thriving shoal of tiny (1-2 cm long) Golden Rudd fry. Three or four hundred probably. The effect was devastating. Within three days most of them had died. There was nothing in the instructions to...

I found this blog while trying to find anything I could about frogs killing koi fish. We have a very large natural pond with 12 medium to large koi. Last spring for the first time we started to see tiny black fish in the pond, needless to say they were baby koi. We had a few hundred, many were...

FROG KILLS KOI IN UK POND by [email protected]
I have just witnessed this myself , I have just netted my koi at bottom of pond with a frog on top of it-the frog had wedged its front feet into the fish gills killing the fish. It is mating season at the moment - so this is possible. I was a bit quick removing the frog from the koi to see if the...

Filter/UV sequence. by JBL2527
I have acquired a pressurised filter (mini dustbin with foam filters inside) and a UV (light in a box) unit. What should be the sequence in which they are linked ? Pump in pond to ...? bin or UV, which comes first ? I was then assuming it will be ok to then link the two units with Flexi hose and...

Soggy lily flower buds by Lintama
HI all. I have a problem with my water lilies. Got a couple of pretty flower heads but I also had several mushy flower buds that just were floppy in the water. The plants along with soil, rocks and water are in a large plastic container which I put them in early last year and I had the problem last...

Will walnut tree litter kill pond? by [email protected]
My swimming pool has been established for over 20 years on city. Water and rain water (none from the roof). It has had leaves to clean but fewer this year. However three walnut trees have dropped some this their first year of fruiting. We skim and use a cover regularly with very little litter or...
