Door Locks - 97 by
madmax
Front doors work fine, back left lock will operate manually, right back
lock is stuck down and the door won't open.
I'm more concerned about that door, so any suggestions on how to
proceed? I'd like to fix it myself if possible, but honestly don't
know how they operate so thought I would ask...

Heat in 1999 Ford Explorer by
madtown30
My heat no longer works in my 1999 Ford Explorer. But the A/C works real
well. What could be the problem and is this an expensive problem to fix?

Blinking 4X4 Indicators - Is There A Code For Number Of Blinks? by
magee
My 2002 Explorer V-8 with about 30,000 miles started blinking the 4X4 LOW
and 4X4 HIGH indicators a few days ago. They blink in unison 3 times every 2
minutes. I've searched the internet and this group and found this is not
uncommon. Most others report 5 or 6 blinks every 2 minutes however. Do...

4x4 grinding noise by
Maida
I have a 1991 explorer with automatic locking hubs. When I switch from 4H
to 2H, there is a very loud grinding noise when driving forward. If I
disengage the hubs by backing up, then the sounds goes away. It also
sometimes does it when I drive forward in 4H. I noticed it started after
I was...

Radio R&R on 2001 Explorer by
[email protected]
I get a terrible lot of noise in my radio so I purchased a Noise
Suppressor from J.C. Whitney and now have to figure out how to install
it. I need to access the radio wiring. Can't quite figure out the most
logical way of doing it and don't want to just blindly begin tearing
off dash and console...

MAX A/C question for you by
Malcolm Reynolds
Does your Explorer / Mountaineer let you warm the air at all
when set to "MAX A/C"? Mine will in the regular A/C mode,
but not in MAX A/C mode... it's 100% cold even with the
heat dial turned all the way up.

2000 EXP SMOKE FROM STEERING WHEEL by
Malona Jackson
I just read a thread from all the way back in 2003 that speaks on the same
exact problem I am having now!!! I have been having the issue for a minute
now; but seeing as though I am not in the position (financially) to take my
truck to the dealership everytime something goes wrong with it, I guess...

4ALD tranny? by
Manso
OK. I am gonna guess that this question has been posted in the past, but I
can't find it so here goes....
1991 Ford Explorer Auto 4X4 EB
I have been told that the tranny in it is "not the greatest".
I don't have enough tools or skills to go to a C4 or "other" option.
I could probably R&R the 4ALD...

rough idling by
Marc Chumney
I have a 2000 V8 Explorer. All of a sudden today, the 'check engine light'
came on and it is idling rough. I have also noticed a decrease in
acceleration and there is a gassy/oil smell when I get out of the car.
Any ideas as to what is wrong. It only has 60k miles.
Thanks

Explorer Circuit Breaker by
Mark Barrett
I have a 95 Explorer with the one and only 4.0L engine
offered that year. When I start the car I get a momentary
grinding noise which I am sure is the starter gear not
retracting quickly enough. So I need a new starter. Last
night as I turned the ignition it cranked for a second and
then...

Timing Chain Tensioner by
Mark Barrett
My son is looking at a 1998 Explorer which has the 4.0L OHV
V6 engine (not the SOHC). It looks and runs great except for one
thing. When the engine starts there is a squeal that lasts about
a second. I've heard this noise on other Fords but have never
know the cause. I asked the owner and he...

Clutch Replacement by
Mark Barrett
I have a 95 Explorer with 245000 miles on it. My son decided to
take it four wheeling last wheel and fried the clutch while changing
gears on a steep ascent. Now both him and I will have the pleasure of
learning how to replace a clutch. I've started doing some preliminary
research and it appears...

Standard CD Player by
Mark Barrett
At what model year did the Explorer have a standard CD player/
AM/FM Stereo as opposed to the standard Cassette player? My son is
driving a 95 XLT with the cassette and would like the CD. I'm
thinking I could pick up a CD big button version from a salvage yard.

Clutch Replacement Success Story by
Mark Barrett
I have a 95 Explorer with 245000 miles used manily by my
17 year son. Recently he decided to take it out off-roading
and completely burned out the clutch. I told him the only way
it was getting fixed is if we did all of the work ourselves.
It took many hours of work but we got it done and it has...

Ford parts online? by
Mark G.
Good afternoon.
Any recommendations for an online source for Ford OEM parts?
I found one that claims to have the parts that I need
("newfordparts-dot-com"), but I have no idea about their reputation.
Thanks

Alternator failures--causes? by
Mark G.
Good evening.
I have a 1998 Ford Explorer V6 with 172k miles. The original alternator
failed
in November, and I replaced it with a "premium" rebuilt alternator from
NAPA.
(The "premium" designation means that they install a new rectifier instead
of a
"good used" recitifier. I considered this an...
