Explorer Rear Disc Pads by FrankB
1998 Explorer with rear disk brakes. I didn't realize that the rear brake pads are not identical. One end of each pad has a notch, otherwise they appear identical. Does the notch ride on the upper or lower rail? Or does it even matter? No reference in the factory manual and pads are not identified...

94 Explorer Auto Transmission Problem by Fred
My automatic transmission started pumping the fluid out. I was told that it was probably the cooling line that broke. How much of a job is it to replace the cooling line and is it rubber or metal? Thanks for any info. Fred.

Can anyone with a four door '96 Explorer XLT B-trim (high console trim, etc) verify if when a door is opened as to whether the front over head lights (by the compass/thermometer), the lights above the rear passenger seats, and the light in the cargo area by the hatch glass all turn on. On mine...

Dead Critter in A/C Vents??? by Fred Mayfield
My 92 Explorer stinks ... literally. Smells like something's died. Smells all the time but is much worse when the A/C is on. Pulled the fan and the wire-wound resistor pack and found a few leaves but no critters. Also pulled the heater core and reached as far around as I could without...

Fuel Vapor Canister removed completely by freeman, d. l.
The mechanics never found the problem and I got tired of breathing gas fumes so I removed the Fuel Vapor Canister from my 94 Explorer and connected the vapor line directly to the CANP line. ....so far, no fumes; just wondering what the down side is?? Emissions issues?? Any ideas?? Thanks!

gas cap loose but no check engine light???? by freeman, daniel l.
Hi All, I'm still chasing gas smells and other odditites with my 94 Explorer XLT 4X4 V6 . My latest experiment was to see if by loosening the gas cap the system was smart enough to trip the "check engine light"--it didn't and I know the CE light is not burned out. Any ideas about this.? The...

had to disconnect battery to start engine 94 EXPLORER by freeman, daniel l.
Hi All! On occasion, when I turn the key, I hear no fuel pump and I only get one click (like a breaker opening) at this time the door panel lights are real dim and the headlights do not burn. Usually at 30-120 seconds the lights come on bright, I hear the fuel pump, and am then allowed to...

Yellowed headlights/"Diamond-cut" clear lenses by FS
My 1995 Explorer headlights really cut down on the pattern, even with Sylvania Silverstars, due to aging/yellowing lenses. Using plastic cleaners/fine steel wool, etc, has not really helped. The ExplorerX forum http://web.explorerx.com/performance/dc.php recommends "Diamond-cut" clear headlight...

Getting rid of '92 Explorer XLT by g the b
I have a '92 Explorer XLT (4x4 4.0 6 cylinder) that I've decided to get rid of. I've had it for about a year now but it needs a new head gasket and exhaust. Considering what I just paid for it not that long ago I don't feel like sinking much money into it. Besides for the gasket and exhaust...
