4x4 grinding noise by
Maida
I have a 1991 explorer with automatic locking hubs. When I switch from 4H
to 2H, there is a very loud grinding noise when driving forward. If I
disengage the hubs by backing up, then the sounds goes away. It also
sometimes does it when I drive forward in 4H. I noticed it started after

4ALD tranny? by
Manso
OK. I am gonna guess that this question has been posted in the past, but I
can't find it so here goes....
1991 Ford Explorer Auto 4X4 EB
I have been told that the tranny in it is "not the greatest".
I don't have enough tools or skills to go to a C4 or "other" option.
I could probably R&R the 4ALD...

REASON, THE TRUCK BEGINS TO HYDROPLANE.
TO MAKE SURE, I ASKED A FELLOW 92 FORD EXPLORER OWNER, AND HE AGREES TO
HAVE THE SAME HYDROPLANE ISSUE AT AROUND 45 MPH...

This is my first time owning an explorer and first time driving a vehicle
with the 4.0 OHV engine. I have driven everyother explorer engine

Hi I have a 99 ford explorer XLS (4.0L, V6) with 77000 miles on it.
Lately whenever I start driving the truck jerks slightly while shifting
into different gears. If I press the pedal hard it jerks even harder. A
new transfer case was put in about 35000 miles ago by a ford dealer.
The transfer case...

Factory Security Code by
[email protected]
After owning our 2000 Eddie Bauer Explorer AWD for four years, my wife
locked her key in the car last week, and I decided it might be nice to
enable the coded entry feature. The manual says I need to find the
factory preset code, which is located on the owner's card in the wallet
(which I can't...

Ford OEM Keychain by
devnu11
I'm trying to purchase a Ford Keychain like you would get when you bought a
new Explorer from the dealer. It was silver and had "Explorer" engraved on
the oval tube which was in the center and it had a ring on each end, one of
which would snap free.
There was an address in the owners manual where...

did so the RPM came down and I could feel the engine slow down and the car
of course slowed down to. However, for a couple of moments, I heard a
"whinning" noise. So I applied the gas and the noise went away and my...

I did that prior to my post. I got the same answer from Cottman and a Ford
Truck dealer...make an appointment and bring it in. My local mechanic could
not give me a ballpark figure. He doesn't do transmissions. But thanks Bill.
