Likely the alternator? by
Anthony Giorgianni[_4_]
Hello Folks
Shut off my 92 XLT this morning and it wouldn't restart. Minor lights
go on, but when I turn the key to the "On" position everything goes
dead or almost dead. And of course it won't start on it's own
I jumped it with my portable jumper, and it started several times. So
I thought it...

Changing spark plugs by
J. Doh[_1_]
How much do dealers charge to change a set of spark plugs these days?
I took a look at the layout of my '99 Mountaineer (V-8 5.0L) and there's
no way you could get to some of those plugs unless you were a miniature
trained monkey, or pulled the whole engine out.

Tire Experience, GoodYear and Bridgestone by
Big Shoe
I am soon going to purchase a set of new tires for my '05 Limited as
the original BFG's are getting so noisy that I don't want to listen to
it any more. And yes, they have been rotated regularly and front end
alignment checked.
My Ford dealer recommends the GoodYear Fortera Triple Tred over...

Kelly Tires by
rvfulltime
A local tire store is advertising some Kelly tires at an
attractive price. Has anyone used these on their Ford
Explorer? Mine is a 2000 XLT 4 door 4x4.

Odd Sound and Vibration when turning by
brazzle
Hello all.
I have a 2002 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer with about 95,000 miles on it.
I have owned the car for a year, but about 2 months ago I noticed that
when I would turn at low speed (0-25 mph) very sharply, I would get a
very troublesome sound and vibration that seemed to come from the
tires....

70,000 on '03 Mountaineer by
Daniel David Palmer[_2_]
Well, our 2003 Mountaineer Premier V8 is approaching 70,000 miles. I
just spent $1200 for rear brakes/rotors, new springs and front bearings.
It seems to be running great now and is not as loud as before (see my
prior posts). I have been thinking about a new Mteer/Explorer....but on
the other...

PICS: The 2011 Ford Explorer is COMING by
JLA
New article about the 2011 Ford Explorer from MA
The Ford Explorer has had a mixed past--rollover lawsuits, relatively
ancient underpinnings and styling that hasn't always kept up with the
pace of the industry. But that's all about to change with the 2011
Explorer, and despite its move to the...

Ancient thread or am I dreaming? by
Happy Traveler
It's time to replace the spark plugs on my '98 5.0L Expy. Right next to #5 I
notice this empty hole - an exhaust manifold bolt somehow worked itself
loose and disappeared. Not a big deal... But a 10mmx1.5 wouldn't fit, and
8mm is way too small. Totally baffled, I try a 3/8"x16 standard -- and...

Fed Up With Goodyear Wranglers by
rvfulltime (was xenman)
A few years ago, in replacing the original Firestone Wilderness AT tires
the local Ford dealer installed Goodyear Wranglers. For the first 10,000
miles they were fine. But then I started hearing a noise that sounded like
the front wheel bearings were going out. The dealer said "nope, it's...

Crankshaft Pulley Removal '92 4.0 by
Ulysses
So, how do I remove the crankshaft pulley from my 4.0 '92? How do I keep
the pulley from turning while trying to remove the screw? Is the screw
standard thread (counterclockwise to remove)?
I modified a strap wrench to hold the pulley but I'm afraid of snapping off
the bolt at this...

short circuit? by
*selah*
We've had a problem on a 92 explorer. The battery wemt dead
and there was nothing left on. It happened after it was
left sitting for 5 days or so. I tested the battery terminals
(with the battery removed) didn't get an open circuit reading
even though nothing was turned on.
I assume there should...

92 FORD EXPLORER HYDROPLANE PROBLEM AT 45 MPH OR MORE.. by
[email protected]
I ENJOY MY FORD EXPLORER AS ANY OTHER FORD EXPLORER OWNER WOULD TELL
YOU. MY ISSUE IS, WHEN IT RAINS, AND I GO PAST 45 MPH, FOR SOME ODD
REASON, THE TRUCK BEGINS TO HYDROPLANE.
TO MAKE SURE, I ASKED A FELLOW 92 FORD EXPLORER OWNER, AND HE AGREES TO
HAVE THE SAME HYDROPLANE ISSUE AT AROUND 45 MPH...

help! punctured gas tank by
Janet
I hit a rock with my 2003 Explorer today and now my gas tank is
leaking. ARGGGH, I wasn't paying close attention because it was a grassy
road I've driven many times but a new rock showed up hidden in the tall
grass. I'm not sure what the hole looks like ie: crack/hole etc because
I'm waiting for...

Fuel Filter confusion by
tfandango
Hi-
I went to O'Reilly last night and bought a fuel filter for my 2000
Explorer (SOHC Engine VIN E). It cost all of 6 bucks. I've got some
conflicting info though and I want to sort that out before
proceeding...
1) The guy told me I didn't need a tool to extract the old filter. He
said I just...

shocks/struts by
Derek
Just had my 97 Explorer XLT (135k miles) in the shop and they told me I
needed
new struts on the front and new shocks on the rear. What is the difference
between
shocks and struts and why does the front need one and the rear the other?
Thank you.
