Is My Transmission Shot? by [email protected]
OK, this just happened...my wife calls me to tell me she's stuck at the bottom of our street, which is a pretty decent sized hill....maybe 800 feet long or so. So I jump in my 96 250 5.8 a/t, hook up to her car (a small Acura) and proceed to try to pull her up the hill. My truck's already in 4WD,...

Anyone ever try to fix a heat/AC swtich (in dash) by DanKMTB
Hi, The switch on my 98 Ranger to control heat, defroster, AC has been on the way out for a while - the only setting that worked was high. It has now died completely, even high does not work. I'm thinking I'd like to fix it as inexpensively as possible, what with the holidays and all. Wondering...

Bushing Extractor Set - How to Use? by Chris F.
I recently bought this bushing extractor/installer set on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=350133791365 Perhaps it's just my inexperience, but I can't for the life of me figure out how this is supposed to work. I bought this with the hope that I...

Subaru Legacy coolant leak by SQ
1998 Subaru Legacy, 2.2L, 147,000 miles I see some coolant on top of the engine. If the car seats for a week and then runs, white, sweet-smelling smoke comes out from the engine bay area. It looks like coolant drips into the Y-pipe and burns. However, no smoke from the tailpipe so the leak...

2005 Stratus headlight replacement by [email protected]
Hello, I need to replace the passenger side headlight on a 2005 Stratus. It looks like the part goes for around $200 online. I called a dealer to see if they had it in stock and the guy said it would be $600 for him to order it. Am I missing something or is it normal for dealer part prices to...

'90 LeBaron tranny problem by JustMe
Can't remember how fast I was going (or even just back out of a parking space), but something fell onto the shifter and knocked it in neutral. Don't know if that was the cause of it not being able to shift beyond 2nd gear I think. Lately it seems if you idle for 10-15 minutes tranny fluid would...

Prothane vs. Energy Suspension - Which is Better? by Chris F.
This is a pretty simple question - which bushing kit is better, Prothane or Energy Suspension? There are kits for my car available from both companies at similar prices, but I'd like to know if one is better than the other.

Holley carburetor main jet sizing question by Jack[_22_]
I'm curious about an apparent inconsistency in the size stamped onto the Holley main jets that came out of a Holley two-barrel 6280 feedback carb designed for the Chrysler 3.9L engine that went into the 1987 Dakota V6. The jet is stamped "175", but the hole appears slightly less than 1 mm in...

1996 Chevy Astro van, clicking coming from front end by JustMe
This car is not yet in my possession, so this is kind of a generic (albeit strange) question. Owner says he thinks it's a front shock (do these use shocks in the front?). It's a v6 that's all I can tell you. Doesn't sound like a shock problem to me. Just thought I could get some input....

What's the function of vacuum in a gas tank? by muzician21
There must be a reason a certain amount of vacuum is maintained in a gas tank. Also, how is it regulated? I assume there must be some kind of relief valve, otherwise wouldn't evacuating the entire volume at some point prevent the gas from being pumped out or collapse the tank?

Subaru Legacy block heater Q by news[_2_]
Ok, where the heck does the block heater go on an 02 Legacy (2.5L)? It's 30 below here, and last winter the car was garaged and sat indoors more than not... this winter it's outside. I went to go plug it in and .... I have a bad feeling this car was ordered without one. (Only had the car two...

98 cavalier z24 PO302 by [email protected][_2_]
My son's z24 recently started skipping at times. Installed new plugs about 4 months ago. They look fine. Pulled code PO302 (Cylinder 2 misfire). I switched plugs in 2 and 3. PO 302 returned a week later. I installed new plug boots and thought problem was fixed but came back about a week later worse...

Spark plugs indicate lean mix on carbureted V6 by Jack[_22_]
I have a brand new out of the box (not rebuilt) Holley 2280 replacement carburetor bolted onto a 1987 Dodge Dakota 3.9L V6 engine. The original was a Holley 6280, which is the feedback version of the 2280. The feedback solenoid for the 6280 is no longer available, so when mine went south, I opted...
