How can I tell if I have Calif emissions on my 99 XLT? by Mikepier
My 99 XLT is due for a muffler and one quote I was trying to get a question arose if my truck has California emissions. How can I tell? I did a few searches for the topic and it seems most of the trucks have it, but I want to be sure. Thanks.

Battery Cover by Big Shoe
It's about time to service the battery again, I'm sure it needs some distilled water. Of course, this requires that the terminals be disconnected and the cover removed. This means the radio loses its presets and the computer is reset to default values. I wonder what purpose the battery cover...

Idle Issue - Jim Warman by Rick Wolford
I put in Jim's name in hopes of getting his attention. It appears to me that Jim is a professional Ford mechanic. For three years now I've been dealing with a bad idle. When sitting at a red light; the rpm's are on the low side, the engine sort of vibrates, enough that it sometimes causes the...

BLown OD repair update - 92 4x4 with automatic by Ashton Crusher
Got my 92 back from the tranny shop. Right at $1400 for the rebuild with 2yr/24K warranty. Asked them to save the exciting parts for me to look at. The part that caused the failure was a VERY thin radial roller bearing that appears to act as a thrust bearing for the OD planetary parts. Once it...

Transmission switched to 4X4 by itself by Tom from WI
2007 Ford Explorer XLT 4X4 with TracControl (or whatever they call it), about 4 months old. Yesterday I went around a small traffic circle to make a left turn and I heard a "clunk" sound in my transmission. I was only a half block from home, so I didn't notice anything else. Later, when I...

Wheel bearings & differential by NCV-VT
2002 Explorer XLT with V-8, 61,000 one owner miles in 3 years miles and now I've got three bad wheel bearings (both rear and driver's side front). Seems awful quick to wear out. They are the newer "hub and bearing assembly" but expensive. Auto mechanic buddy says Ford OEM and replacement...

Problems with leftovers by Jim Tiberio
Are there any problems that may be typical with a fairly old left over vehicle? I've found a dealer who has two 2005 Mountaineers, both with <100 miles. They are loaded models and are both priced around $29K. They are about $12K less than new and still $3K more than what KBB thinks a true...

Check Engine Light, 97 Ford Explorer by [email protected]
The Check Engine Light on my '97 Ford Explorer SOHC has been on for quite some time. It is 10 years old and has 177K miles. The problem is that, here in Southern California, of course, you must pass a Smog Check and obtain a Smog Certificate in order to obtain Registration. I know that it will not...

2002 Eddie Bauer Electrical by Chris G
I don't know if this is really a problem, or just a strange alteration of how my electrical system now works. About 2 months ago my car stopped letting me open the auto doorlocks unless the key was in the ignition. The same thing with the radio and power windows. Before, I would have about 10...

2002 Ford Explorer AC thumping by jandainaz
Hi, Recently, my 2002 Explorer started thumping the back by the lock control for the 3rd row seats. It was first doing it only when the rear AC was on. Then when any AC was on and now it just does it randomly. It does not change with speed or engine rpm. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

1997 Explorer P171 and P174 codes Thanks for help by Larry
A couple of months ago I posted that I was getting P171 and 174 lean on bank 1 and 2 fault codes. Some of you suggested cleaning or replacing the MAF sensor if nothing else obvious was wrong. Cleaning it using CRC Lectramotive cleaner did the trick. Runs fine and codes are gone. Thanks all for...

Explorer Interior Lights by George Evans
Greetings All, On my 98 Explorer, when I open the driver's side door, the interior lights will not come on any longer. They work if you open other doors. Where is the switch located on the door which turns on and off the lights? I recently had the lock repaired at the Ford dealer. Could they have...

Rear Door Lock Rocker Switch by The Wolf
In the back of my '01 Explorer Sport is a rocker switch that is supposed to lock the doors before shutting the rear hatch. Sometimes if works, sometimes it doesn't. The battery is near the end of it's life. Could it be that it is too weak? No other problems with any electric door locks or system.
