S10 2.2 lifter noise? by
BOB URZ
I had previously posted last year on the problems i had with my
96 2.2 Chevy S10. To recap, the tensioner on the cam chain broke
and allowed the chain to jump time. I took the head off and found
8 bent valves. I had the head into a machine shop, had it cleaned,
decked, and 8 new valves and seals ...

New cheap car by
The Real Bev[_5_]
I need to shop (southern California) for a <=$4K car for a friend. I
believe that I want a Carolla because they're always at the top of
reliability lists and NOBODY I know wants to work on a car ever again.
So I'm looking at cars in the $3-$4K range with under 150K miles which
tend to be...

99 Jeep Cherokee stumbles by
dsi1[_11_]
My daughter told me that her Cherokee started stumbling and the check engine light turned on when she was parking it. My wife wanted to use it the next day but the horn turned on and wouldn't shut off. The horn was shut off by disconnecting the battery.
A code reader indicated that the throttle...

Testing Brake Fluid by
ED
I read that I can determine the moisture content of the brake fluid in my
car
by using a DMM (digital multimeter). Negative lead to the -battery term
and the positive lead to the brake fluid in the reservoir. Anything
below .3 volts is acceptable.
Any comments on the validity of this method?

Speedometer Reading After Crash by
panabiker
Over the weekend, I had a conversation with some friends on a recent
accident involving NJ governor. It was reported by news media that the
SUV was going at 91 MPH prior to the crash. My question was how they
found out the speed, and one answer was that a speedometer would stuck
at the speed the...

LGX engine power output query by
[email protected]
This new motor is specced at 250 kW when mounted north-south in a Cadillac.
But when mounted east west, it is only 231 kW in Buick or 235 kW in Opel.
So what is the difference? Does the transverse installation cramp the exhaust
and air intake, or did Cadillac just get a hot engine map?

car stumbles going around corners but no MIL by
Bob J Jones
For about a year now, the car stumbles when going around corners, where I
can't figure out what the stumbling is due to.
It didn't used to be so consistent but it's getting worse over time so now
it's finally noticeable that it's the turns and not something else that
makes it stumble for a split...

are fuses always on 12V side of a device? by
[email protected]
I find a lot of vehicles used "switched earth" system, where devices join
to a 12 V main wire, and are switched on the earth side. But then, would
the fuse still be on the hot side for extra safety?
So I believe it should look like this:
12V--fuse--lamp--switch--earth
