GM auto transmission ratings by [email protected]
For GM automatic gearboxes, the second number is supposed to be the vehicle weight rating, but what units? I noticed that Cadillac Catera (rebadged Opel) had a 4L30E gearbox, but the GMH Commodore Calais (very similar car) got 4L60E.

auto fridges and other "novelty items" by [email protected]
I see no autofridges from reputable sources where I live, do you get anything from Whirlpool or some other reputable manufacturer in the US of A? OT for those in the US of A: for some reason amazon.com shows hardly any gas clothes dryers, what's available is korean and hardly inexpensive. Why gas...

engine design theory question: over square vs under by MAB
I've noticed recently that it sure seems that most 6 cylinder and above engines are over square (bore larger than stoke) and it sure seems that most 4-bangers are under square. There must be a reason. Can anyone shed some light on why this is? Thanks Mike

Help: Installing an upper ball joint 2003 F150 by Michael Wilson
Long time listener, first time caller. I'm installing an upper ball joint and caliper on the passenger side, and pads and rotors on both sides. This is the first time doing this for me. Looks like the total for parts is around $200.00. Any advice? Thanks!

1994 GMC Safari by Tod Kozeluh
My van recently started dying when coming to a stop. I replaced plugs, wires, cap and rotor when I found a burned up spark plug wire. Things appeared fine for awhile until the van died while driving at 50mph. This was something new. Another new thing is that it wouldn't immediately restart. It has...

Timing Chain Or Belt by MLD
Have a 2008 Toyota Avalon XLS, 6 cyl. At the moment can't locate the owner's manual. Have been trying to find out if the car has a timing chain or a belt. Looking around, I've read many conflicting answers re-Chain or Belt and replacement mileage; 60,000 vs 90,000. Also, have not read...

Correct Tire Pressure ? by Robert11[_2_]
Hello, Have a 2009 Buick LaCrosse. Tires on it are Nokian WRG2 225/60R16 98H Folks at the dealership checked tire pressures during an oil change, and have now made them all 35 psi (when cold). Have to admit that the car seems to handle a bit better with the

Transmission issues in 2004 Chevy Impala by Jamie Johnson
I am currently having problems with my 2004 impala transmission. It slips two to three times every time I'm driving up a hill. I've been having this problem for a while now, especially since I moved to Atlanta. I know I have about a good year or so before it goes out completely. I was thinking...

mystery of corolla differential runs dry by Jack
My father's 97 corolla with the 3 speed transmission recently develop a whine. Drove it to my usual mechanic where he suggested to try change both the oil in the tranny and the differential to see if it helps. (this transaxle has a seperate differential drain plug). The tranny was drained first and...

1996 lumina car - wheel cylinder r & r by tim blanchard
I'm trying to replace the leaky wheel cylinders on a 1996 Lumina car. The wheel cylinder bolts have e8 torx heads, and not enough clearance to use a socket or a flat box end wrench. I tried to get a special tool, the Lisle 22070, which is made for this exact job, but it does not seem to be...

effect of rim width on handling by [email protected]
I scored a set of 5 16x7.5 alloy wheels, unblemished. I went to local tyre emporium to get some 245/50R16 tyres on them. The guy tried to tell me that I need 8.5 inch rims for such tyres. Although mine would be legal, he muttered that I will have caved-in sidewalls, and handling is degraded (but...

Who's BRILLIANT Idea Was This?!... Fuel Filter Location by [email protected]
In the 2006.5-2010 Kia Optima, the fuel filter is INSIDE OF THE FUEL TANK, which must be drained & dropped in order to replace, first at the 30k mile interval. I'm up here, at 43k+ miles, still starts and acclerates okay, but I suspect acceleration has decreased so slowly over time I've forgotten...

Why did my lug nut studs break? by somick[_5_]
I am just curious. Why did two lug nut studs break on the same wheel? I am pretty sure I was the last one who worked on them. Torqued them to 80 ft/lb in a Cris-cross pattern. One just broke when I had to put a breaker bar on it when it stopped moving. When the second one stopped moving I sprayed...
