co2 in cichlid tank? by
[email protected]
Great information! The truth and reality here is that african cichlids can acclimate to ph levels of 7.0.to 7.5 just fine. In fact, all of the African cichlids you purchase in stores have the same ph of all the other freshwater fish for sale. Plants and african cichlids can work well together...

Aquarium Lighting by
Hound
Quoted from a website: (refering to a Power Compact Flo set-up)
Our DIY systems include one ballast for every two lamps, thus creating
a great way to implement dawn & dusk simulation.
My question is if that is correct? I am currently looking to
build/purchase a 36" PCF that utilizes 2-55w bulbs....

Bubble Wall by
Bill Stock
I want to add a bubble wall to my 55 gallon. I had an old Hagen Optima that
I bought for a non fishy purpose about 20 years ago, but it's toast. I don't
imagine it's worth fixing, so what's a good alternative, Whisper, Tetratec?
It should be cheap, quiet and have amazing output! :) But I'd settle...

DIY CO2 system - is this do-able? by
Andy
Greetings,
I'm planning a homemade CO2 system - I'm after a well regulated bubble rate.
At first I thought maybe I'd put a pressure regulator with just the 2 liter
pop bottle setup, but I assume backpressure could make the bottle explode.
So what I'm looking to do now is to get a pressure cooker...

DIY aquarium question (odd one) by
Ethan
Saw an aquarium at a local college yesterday that had to have been 8'
deep. It was definitly a salt water aquarium.
I have a question, that I can't seem to find an answer to. How hard
would it be to build such an aquarium? All of the glass thickness
calculators I can find don't seem to handle...

Sea Storm Fluidized Bed filter - replace media? by
P&L
I have a large Sea Storm fluidized bed filter that sat dormant for too long
and requires replacement of the sand media. Looks to me like both ends of
the cylinder are sealed shut. Anyone know how to replace the sand?
Thanks.

Silicon Sealant by
Marge
Is standard silicon sealant safe in a fish tank?
I had a problem with waste gathering between a black plastic filter/
pump cage and inside edge of glass so removed the cage and refitted
with standard sealant leaving no gap for water/waste to get between
cage and glass.
Silicon was fully cured...

UV bulb question by
beerismygas
there are two types of UV tubes: Black light & Black Light-Blue glass
GEs website says the difference btwn BL and BLB is that BLB have dark
glass which traps visible light producing the maximum amount of UV?
this doesnt make much sense to me...having an opaque glass will just
trap visible light...

Algae in Filter/Pump Hoses by
HKEK
A couple of months ago I re-plumbed my 55 gallon freshwater aquarium.
I added 6 feet of hose to neatly place the filter/pump inlet at the
opposite end of tank from the outlet. I now notice a great deal of
algae growth covering the inside surface of the new hose. I did not
change the original outlet...
