new to Miata and rack by
Cameraman
I just joined this group - and I just got a new 2006 MX-5 Grand Touring
about two weeks ago. I'm in Orange County, CA.
I really enjoy my Miata. I'm a "big guy" - a football player build -
and I'm very comfortable in the newly designed Miata. I've already
taken a road trip and I was more...

Downshifting by
CR
Downshifting: yes or no?
Double-clutching: necessary or not?
Comments and suggestions welcome...
Since there are fewer 5/6-speed manual transmission autos sold in the
U.S. these days, perhaps it is a lost skill?

Miata Poll - What would you do if your Miata were gone today? by
pws[_1_]
If you were to lose your current Miata today, be it totaled, stolen,
whatever, and received enough money to cover a replacement, all the way
up to an optioned-out brand-new one, (say $30,000 to be safe), what
would you do:
buy an older miata and keep the larger money difference?
get a brand-new...

Mazda3 clunk by
andy-k
I have a 2004 Mazda3 (manual transmission) that has just been serviced
(non main-dealer) after flying through its MOT (not same place as service).
Since servicing I've noticed on starting the engine and pulling away that
when I reach a certain road speed (normally shortly after changing up...

the top up.....
I can't believe how much more I enjoy driving with the top down..

PBS reviews Pontiac Solstice by

I just watched "Motorweek" on PBS as they reviewed the Pontiac Solstice.
They continually compared it to the MX-5 and.... well, here, read it
yourselves:

What am I missing? by
Randy Maheux
In 5 weeks I will be moving from San Diego to the Daytona Beach area. My
problem is getting my Miata back east. I could drive it in 4 - 12 hour days
or pay Mayflower to haul it with my furniture. Nine years ago I was a
zombie after driving a Ford Ranger from Tampa to San Diego in 4 days. ...

35.97 mpg... by
Tim M.[_2_]
.... was my calculated fuel consumption rate for an ~84 mile drive
from Fredericksburg, Virginia, to Reston, Virginia on Sunday. I
intentionally drove as conciously of fuel consumption as possible,
without causing a dangerous situation. Average speeds were in the

yes, it's a mileage thread by
pws[_1_]
I was wondering what people are seeing as far as real-world MPG for the
NC Miata (2006-2010), with a 5-speed.
I am just curious about what is the best it is capable of on the highway
with the top up as well as top down, and what it gets when driven with a
heavy foot around town.
Thanks,
Pat

newbie by

Ok. I'm new to Miatas (well, got it in January)
I'm new to the group.
Question:
Does anyone else downshift in tunnels and drive in parking garages in first
gear near the redline every now and then just to hear the exhaust note? or
is it just me?
I always thought I was quite sensible until now.

Warning: Off Topic!
This group has been dormant for a while. Here is a bit of an armchair
challenge for all you car enthusiasts:
A friend of mine got a new job, driving to various company facilities
for inspection and problem solving as required. The job means a lot of
time on the road (which...
